Tax: raising income tax on people who make more than $250,000.

Infastructure: investing in projects to improve roads, ports, and mass transit. It'll create more jobs for unemployed people on street right now, and fix up and upgrade the transportation methods.

International: [against] using military force on N.Korea and Iran to shut down the potentioal nuclear program their developing.

Poster ideas

Healthcare: the idea of universal coverage and it's right not a privilege 

Environment: buying products made locally 

Youth: studies in the arts, encourage creativity and imagination in children

Poster Topic

I already talked to you and Helen about this in more detail, but my topic ideas for my posters are: 

-the death penalty

-financial aid for college

-reformation of public school systems

For Friday, I am going to be exploring the death penalty in depth.

Newer Poster Concepts

Education: Funding, I guess, would be better for the audience we are trying to reach. I was thinking possibly funding for higher education. Making financial aid easier to receive and apply for. Also helping pay for tuition, not sure how I would use this for a poster design yet though.

Social Security (One of the stronger ones): Experts say that trust funds will be dried up by 2040 if we don't do something soon about our social security situation. This poster would be a call to action to do something about the situation and stop avoiding it. Our generation wants to be assured that social security isn't for nothing and that we will be able to retire at a reasonable age.

Taxes: Changing the taxing system so that people who make over a certain amount of money have to pay taxes on their incomes too. It really doesn't make sense to be making someone who makes an income UNDER a certain amount pay taxes 100% of the time while others who are better off don't have to.

Posters concepts

racism/racial profiling - I want to confront how racism is still rampant throughout the media and in society but turning the focus on how people are seeing "terrorists." However, I did a poster abou this last year in my elements class, so I don't know that I would have enough of a fresh mind set to think of something that is drastically different from that previous poster.

gay rights/anti-gay rights - I can't decide which would be more fun to do. My idea is based on how all of those "God hates fags!" posters are always drawn in marker on posterboard, but what if they were mass marketed as high-quality posters?

apathy - Not sure how I would go about this one, but I think it would be funny to promote apathy towards issues/an issue in a reverse-psychology sort of way. I'd have to narrow down the issue(s) that I would focus on and then figure out how I would go about it.

Shannon Hart-Read

I like the cut paper look. I also like that some of the text looks hand written and some doesn't. the colors are bright and fun. It's just a friendly poster.













Jason Munn

The neutral colors work well with the stamp idea. I like that one stamp is out of place. the typeface fits well, too. It's a nice, simple poster.













Clifford Stoltze

The two shades of blue are lovely on the complimentary orange background. All of the little images fit perfectly up against each other. Then, there's the white line that crawls in between them. It leads my eye from "Discover" to the smaller information at the bottom. The different styles of letters look like they belong together.

Political Poster Examples

I didn't bring any images of posters to class, so here are my picks:


Luba Lukova

This poster has a simple composition and color scheme. The small war objects make up the bigger peace object. It's a good design from a distance and has a deeper meaning up close.














Karen Kurycki

This is one of a series of posters. There is one with a hand and one with a brain, as well. The bright colors in the center of the white background caught my attention, which is important for a poster. The message is simple and I like that the image completes the sentence.











Colin White

The bright colors got me again. This poster is violent because of the red slash that I see as blood. I like the way the text is stacked and fit together. The back and forth of the words (both in the way that they are placed on each side of the red line and in the opposing meanings) is easy to interact with and has a strong message.
